Re-Painting

I just wasn't satisfied with the last finish on this piece - It felt over rendered in some ways and I think it lacked texture and the silhouette from the original sketch. I'm still finding myself in photoshop. I like the second version much better because you can still see some of the under-painting - a look I had in my traditional work.

  1. You're right! It has much more depth and a finished look. Good work!

  2. I'm so happy you gave this a second round. Though I liked the first version, it did look rather digital to me. This one's much better. Kudos!

  4. I really appreciate your feed back guys. I think being an artist makes you inherantly insecure - perhaps I'm projecting. What I mean is that we put our heart and soul into our art and put it out there so the world can have at it. Then if you're like me you wonder sometimes why you put it out there. I sometimes start the negative self talk that goes something like this: "This really isn't that good - I could have done much better - and so on. So thanks again!

  5. Will, I think that is INCREDIBLY healthy! I worry about the day that I think my stuff is the best and doesn't need improvement(May it never come!). As long as I see areas that my art can improve I know that I will always strive to learn, grow and get better! If we don't have that we stagnate and I know many artists whose work still looks the same today as it did 5 years ago!(Which is sad.) Your work is always improving and growing in some way and I find that ADMIRABLE and RESPECT WORTHY! Keep it up you're an inspiration!

  7. This is terrific! Your second version is even better than the first one (and that one wasn't so bad either!). Great job with the lighting and texture.

  8. Yeah, your second one is a great improvement on an already beautiful illustration. I love the orange poking through.

  9. I totally agree. The second version looks like an actual painting, like what you used to do with a brush. The first one looked very smooth and computer generated and not so different from what Disney and Pixar are already doing. Not to put down the giants, but I love that your work looks handmade and not so cold.
