Just For Fun!
Last night I decided to avoid working on the projects that pay real money and do something just for fun. I painted this in photoshop last night sitting in our new recliner watching "The Thing" (1982 John Carpenter version)with my boys. I rendered it on my little netbook just to see how far I could take an image on that little $248 computer. Technology is getting really affordable for everyone.
I combined the background photo (google images) with my rendering to save time. FYI I would never do this for a paying client - I don't like confrontations, threats, law suits, etc. :)

Looks great! You're the last illustrator I would ever picture using a photo background, but you NAILED it! Digital Will Terry is unstoppable! Also, THE THING is in my top ten sci-fi movies of all time.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell Jared, but I think you're better at painting like "Will Terry" in any medium than he is. Ha, I love you guys.
ReplyDeleteGreat one Will! Great to unwind with a little something “just for the FUN of it “. :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fuel Luke!
ReplyDeleteI love this sophisticated fellow, and the background works perfectly! I wouldn't have noticed it was a photo without the mention.
ReplyDeleteGreat character. Love the style.
ReplyDeleteMr. Catfish. Very nice Will.
ReplyDeleteWill, you kill me. You render full paintings in the time it takes me to draw a pencil sketch. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnother masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so cool, I love how the background has really been incorporated seamlesslessy I also wouldnt have noticed it to be a photo. He looks very Ye Olde English detective to me, maybe the Police inspector after Jack the Ripper or something.
ReplyDeleteI love going back into my sketchbook and looking for something to add color to. Each time I make something "just for me" it's like coming up for air. I think artists in general have this burning need to be creative and one way or another we're going to let it out.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice. You have a great sense of lighting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff! I had a lot of fun with it!
