Monster App

Here is another sketch for the ipad/iphone app I'm working on. I do not have a programer yet - have talked to a few but I want to find someone who believes in my project enough to go all in with me and share the loot we most certainly will rake in. This is certainly another leap of faith but I've found that if you have a dream and can see - really see the vision of it, you should go for it! I've been learning this over the past year and have enjoyed a fair amount of success with this method of working. I'm sure I'll have my fair share of failures - wait - I've done that:

My Failed books: "The magical world Inside Abandoned Refrigerators", "Daddy Drinks Because You Cry", and "You Are Different and That's Bad".....ok ok - I lifted these from the internet but you get the picture. I've had failures and I'll have more and you know what? That's ok.

  1. Funny---I'm in the middle of producing my own interactive book for the iPad and have been considering using DemiBooks software for the app portion. Even though I have a programmer lined-up. What are your thoughts on these new apps vs. utilizing a programmer?

It's a definite option for those without a programmer at hand. You can download the software for free and build your book and then for $500 DemiBooks will translate it over to an Apple format (within a week). My programmer was going to cost me around $2400.

  2. Hey Mark, Your work rocks! I haven't really looked into what I would call "stock" programing because I'm sure it would force me to make too many compromises. I'd be interested to learn more from you about DemiBooks. This is the reason I want to find someone willing to gamble their time along side me. I was unhappy with the "Monkey & Croc" app but then again I wasn't completely invested in making that ebook interactive.

My feeling is that if you can get a collaboration going you're more likely to end up with a polished product. In the end I'm looking to get on the radar with this one - I'm willing to bleed and hoping to find another donor out there.

  4. Sorry about that to anyone who saw the above comment - I would have left it up but there was too much offensive language - and it didn't make any sense. I like having the anonymous feature so that people can give me honest feedback that they might otherwise not feel comfortable to give.

  5. Hey Will! Congrats on always moving forward. If we are smart, we learn as much from our failures as we do from our successes. Best of luck and thanks for all your help.

  6. W- Thanks for replying and thanks for kind words on the artwork! I'm with you on producing a more polished product and I feel that the puzzles and games crammed into interactive ebooks muck-up the story. Though it seems most customer reviews want more bang for their buck nowadays. Most book creating software is clunky and limited but DemiBooks just came out and seems to have potential--if used creatively. The book is created directly on the iPad and that seems limiting but also a time-saver. And then what about the iPhone book format.? I guess I'll do some tests and weigh my options. My writer has done an incredible job with the story and I'm even recording voice-over in a sound studio! I'm going for it--your blog inspires me even more--thank you!!

  7. Thanks Mark - I'd hope you keep us updated - I'd love to find out your thoughts on Demibooks if you play around with their developement tools. In my perfect world someone comes out with a software package similar to video editing software- you just sit down and bring music, sound, image, animation, video together in one program and weave it together and spit out an app - or ibook.
