Are We Creating Too Many Artists?

I often get asked these three questions:

1) Are you worried that you are helping too many artists - that will one day take away your business?

2) Why would you help other people learn how to make story apps and ebooks that will ultimately compete with yours in the market place?

3) Aren't you worried that you will have a bunch of artists copying your style?
I was happy to finally be able to make this video to explain my position on the abundance mentality vs the scarcity mentality. I would love to know how you feel?

  1. It is interesting (always) to hear your perspective on art & illustration, plus you articulate it so well. I agree that you continually need to learn, and challenge yourself, be supportive of others and just keep channeling the positive energy. I enjoyed your take as well on being surrounded by art daily in all that we do... it is one I share with my son who still talks about being a race car driver some day, and I still try and put the seed in his mind that wouldn't it be more fun to be the race car designer! (can't help it, I am a creative mom that would prefer him behind a tablet instead of a speeding car).

    1. It's scary when our children want to be artists but I'm always reminded of all the jobs and projects that an art foundation can lead to...and the many people who get fed up with the "safe" career they chose and are now leaving behind... :) Thanks Lisa!

    1. Thank you - yes - I think it can bring focus to the direction you're heading in if you can define what it is you want to accomplish.

  5. It is beautiful to find people like you, Will, who aren't cynical and refuse to give in to the principle of scarcity and just want to share what they know with as many people as possible. It's inspiring! Thank you for this post. :)
