Nasty Bugs!

I've been working on a book called "Nasty Bugs" - an anthology of poetry directed at boys by Lee Bennett Hopkins published by Dutton. Here is a sneak peek (zoomed in) at one of the characters in the book - a nasty wasp! I've been having so much fun working on this book that I don't want it to end! Bugs have so many interesting shapes and lines that it truly is a dream job.

  1. I love the look on his face and the lighting down his body. What a fun project!

  2. Will, What a wonderful wasp! I am very excited to be a part of this project too, and I adore your style. I wrote the lice poem, and after Lee assigned this "nasty bug" to me, our family got lice right away. I wrote a commentary about it here if you want to continue wallowing in the land of bugs. hee hee! I cannot wait to see all of your art in this book. Amy

  5. Hey Amy and Lee - thanks for your work on this project - my goal is to do justice to the wonderful poems in this book. I know that it will be one that I can't wait to see printed!

I've heard that getting lice is one of those things that just sort of happens and even though it can happen to anyone - there seems to be some bit of shame that goes with it. Our dog gave us a small case of fleas and I felt horrible that my son had bites.

  6. Will, You are right. It's terrible to get lice. May it never never happen to you. I just read your recent post about carrying your sketchbook, and I could not agree more...we do believe ourselves into our dreams. I feel grateful to be linked to you and your work in this small way. A.
