How to Make and Market Your ebook / app

I get asked quite often: "why should I make an ebook or app and what are the best methods to market them?" In the video below I try to make a case for both. I hope that my insights will help you make the right decisions for you. I'm not an expert at this whole ebook thing but I've developed some opinions which I've put in the video. With a technology so new all we can really go on is each others best guesses and experiences. If you're writing or illustrating or contemplating either I think this video might help you solidify your ideas or change them for the better.

Oh yeah - the video is about a half hour so get your favorite beverage and a sketchbook and chilax!

  2. Thanks, Will. It's great to see you inspiring your fellow artists so consistently. And putting all of it out there in a way that makes a lot of sense!

  3. Great info,Will! As someone with a day job spent marketing other people, I agree with all the tips you give to get your name and your products out there on a consistent basis. I also agree that you should make sure you have an amazing product before you invest your time and money putting yourself out there. If you don't work on your craft first, your marketing ends up being like grafiti ... Fools and their faces show up in public places and it's much harder to overcome a bad first impression than it is to market something really great to begin with!

    1. It sounds over simplified but it's the truth...spend the time on the product and let it sell it's self :)

  5. Thanks you guys! I had fun making it - I think there's a lot of bad info out on the web - a lot of mis-leading articles on marketing ebooks...like paying for reviews - how lame is that? Like people are going to frequent sites where reviews can be bought.

  6. I'll also throw in my thanks! I remember some of the most important advice I ever received was from you during a lecture at BYU years ago. You said that if you are moving at the speed of school, you are going too slow. It seems like the same advice applies to pro careers, you can't expect to do the minimum and get great results. I really need to update my website along with fifty other things. I've been wanting to move into kid's books lately and another BYU grad pointed me at this video. Haha, you're still schooling me now.

  7. You are such an amazing teacher. Thank you, for sharing your insights.

Question: How do you decide on who does your web hosting & who registers your domain name? Who does yours?

    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

  9. Great info and video. Indeed, your eBook can be your first step towards building a stream of passive income. But actually selling it can be a bit of a challenge if you don't have a big list.
