Dr. Paul Interviewed Me For Podcast

There's a first time for everything and Monday was my introduction to a podcast interview. Dr. Paul runs a great podcast called "Live On Purpose Radio". He interviews people who have had to overcome adversity and make crutial decisions in their lives to find success. I think he was running low on quality interviews when he saw me bumpin down the street. I felt a tug as I was snatched off my feet and plopped in his chair. Someone slammed some headphones and shoved a mic in my face and the rest...is in the podcast: http://www.liveonpurposeradio.com/radio/2012/02/13/illustrating-success/

You don't need an iPod to listen - just click the link and listen right from the webpage. Anyway - I had fun and now I'm going back through some of his other podcasts - really good stuff.

  2. Thanks for that, Will.

Very inspirational. I hope your Wife and Son are doing better now.

I do think your final thought on the interview was a good one as I have gone the other route for quite few years and now am pursuing what I should have done 30 years ago.

I also grew up near Fresno (Reedley).

  3. I've known you for a long time and have been inspired by your art, your design, and your perseverance.

I've also learned over the past year/year and a half that life is tough sometimes. It's what you do when it's tough that matters...give up or move up. You moved up and up and up. Way to persevere. Very inspiring interview.

I needed a little boost to the way I think about my own career and life. Thanks for being my friend, Will!

  4. Will, great interview. You truly know how to inspire fellow illustrators keep moving forward.(we tend to be a self doubting lot!) I have been illustrating for over 20 years, but it wasn't until 18 months ago they I had the "ah ha" moment. The moment in your life that makes you realise you need to do what makes you happy, not what you are supposed to do. I was in a design role that was a good position to hold, but my spirit was sad. I am now freelance illustrating full time and have found my passion again. I am loving it. The neh sayers like to tell you, you are mad, but you have to follow your dreams. And I am not just doing this for me, it's for my kids and my husband. If they see me happy and creating a full filling life, then hopefully they will know it's ok for them to do so also.

  5. Thanks all of you! - but I can't take the credit - my wife and son are the ones who have to get up everyday. Who had to alter their life plans. Who don't get to do what they used to. Who have to find new ways of living. Who watch others like me pursue their dreams while theirs have evaporated. They have to find new dreams and accomplishments. Our family has learned lessons that many people don't get to learn. That's a good thing. Thanks again you guys for all your kind words - it means a lot to me.

  7. Loved your interview Will! it was very inspiring and ironically we have similar circumstances in our lives as well as I have to deal with MS which has turned our lives upside down physically, emotionally and financially too. So your interview was awesome to listen to and encourages me to move forward and not give up. You are an extremely talented illustrator and I enjoy and have been following your work. I've learned so much from you!! All the best to you and your dear family, wishing you all brighter days and much continued success!!

  8. Thank you Will. Wonderful interview. Happy to hear that your wife and son are doing much better now. Hearing your back story is not only inspiring, but adds new understanding about you as a person and a teacher. Huge Thank you, too, for Folio Academy. Wholeheartedly agree with your friend James Hoops about the initial videos being too fast . . . as that is where I found you first - the videos now are so calming even when you are not talking and we just watch as you finish coloring an illustration I learn so much.

The podcast was perfect. I am just relearning to be selfish and do the art I want to do. I have to find it again . . . 30+ years of doing what someone else wanted me to do -

Just - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  9. Hi, Will. I just finally got around to listening. I really appreciate your honesty and your inspiration. My heart goes out to your wife and son. Chronic pain is such a tough hand to be dealt. But they're lucky to have you.

And so is the illustration community!

    Take care.
