Why I'm Glad I Didn't Get Free Money!

Have you ever had a situation where you desperately needed money but didn't know how you were going to get it or where it was going to come from? I did. In this video I explain why I needed it and why I'm glad I NEVER got it!

  1. Your videos are always right on time. My husband and I are struggling a bit ( a lot) financially right now. My hubby works while I stay home with our 2 year old son after being laid off my job. I decided to take the free time to pursue my true love for illustration. At times it fells like I'm drowning with thoughts of what I want to do and what I need to do. Yet, when I sit down and really think hard on it and search my soul, Illustration is what I need and want to do. It helps to hear that you've been through the hardships and made it through successfully. Glad you didn't become a guard. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

  2. Thank you Tamisha! Prayers go out to you! It's rough sometimes but I think that working on what you were meant to do should be part of your day even if it's a small part. Thank you! W

  3. Thanks for sharing your story. Success stories are inspiring, but its nice to get the whole story, if that makes sense.

One question which you don't have to answer: I know you're an illustrator and not a financial person, but is there one thing (or maybe a couple) you wish you would have done early on in order to be prepared financially for problems later? I only ask because I feel like I'm in a similar situation as you were early in your story--two incomes (one from freelance illustration, and the other provides our health insurance) and doing pretty well, but still trying to figure out the best way to budget and prepare for the future.

    1. Hi Sarah - good to hear from you :)

It's really quite simple and boring - live well below your means - even when you can afford more - try to stay within percentages - I'm a big fan of Dave Ramsey the radio talk show host...6-12 month emergency fund to pay all of your bills, savings, charity, debt free...that's us now - works like a charm - we could have afforded a lot more house but chose to go small...small = stress free :)
