What should Be In My Illustration Portfolio?

In this video I give a list of items I feel every children's book illustrator should have in their portfolio. Art Directors and Editors are afraid to hire the wrong artist so make sure you're covering all the most important items. If you can think like an editor you'll be much more equipped to show them what they want to see.

  1. Thanks Will for your comments on this. I struggle with what I LOVE to create most vs what is popular with ADs/Editors.
But I guess that is what makes being a freelance illustrator fun, always on our toes. ;)

  5. Very good tips. Just wanted to know if I am drawing some figures what should be there in the background? Should the background be like a real picture with landscape or inside a house or anywhere they are positioned.
